The Eco Can is made from PLA (a kind of corn starch…which probably means you can eat this thing if you absolutely have to…not that we’re encouraging that, but like if you’re trapped in the woods and you’re starving then you might as well try, right?).

This durable drinks container is BPA-free (BPA is a toxin commonly found in plastics) and is completely non-toxic, creating 40% less carbon emissions than its petroleum-based counterparts. And the best part is that your liquids aren’t being stored in a container made from the same lethal family of chemicals that gasoline is refined from.

But just because it’s made from corn byproducts doesn’t mean it’s not durable. You can store anything from acidic juices to scalding coffee. It’s even microwaveable and dishwasher safe. And yet somehow it’s completely biodegradable. It’ll last you up to ten years, but once it hits the landfill it’ll fully decompose in 180 days.

The manufacturer doesn’t mention this specifically, but if it breaks down that rapidly in a compost pile then dirt has to be its kryptonite. Don’t drink dirt out of this thing and you’ll be fine.
